6/29/10 birDie Day

I played at Springbrook this afternoon and shot 38-44 for an 82, from the men's tees. After double-bogeying the first hole, I made my first par on the evil-looking, par-3 second. I parred the third and the fourth holes, and then my moment finely came: I smashed my drive 220 yards to the middle of the fairway, landing 90 yards from the green. Sending my pitching wedge to the green, I then drained a sidewinding, 20-foot putt for my first birdie of the year. Shortly after that, a menacing cloud rolled in, bringing with it a steady downpour. The rain subsided about 30 minutes later, so I left my shelter and made another birdie on the par-five sixteenth.

My First Tournament

I played in my first Maine State Golf Association Junior Tournament on Tuesday, at Belgrade Lakes Country Club.

The last to tee off in my foursome on the 339-yard, par-4 1st, I hit my drive 250-yards down the middle. From there, I knocked a pitching wedge on the green, 30 feet from the hole, then four putted for a 6.

On the 526-yard, par-5 16th, I hit my drive 239 yards to the fairway. Using a 3-iron, I managed a 130-yard shot into the rough. My 7-iron helped me out of the rough with 120 yards. That gave me an 80-yard approach. I took out my sand wedge and landed it 10 yards short of the green, then pitched up to 20 feet and three putted for a 7.

These efforts, along with less spectacular results on the other sixteen holes, got me a 12th place finish, out of 16 players, and a score of 104.

Playing In The Rain

Today, I played 18 holes in a mizzle rain and shot 45-42 for an 87.

On the 389-yard, par-5 16th, I pushed my drive to the right into the rough, and layed up with a 5-iron to 50 yards. I then sent my third shot over the green, and chipped up to 15 feet. From there, I drained the putt.

On the 350-yard, par-4 17th, I nailed my drive, sending it 210 yards, and smacked my 5-iron 140 yards to the front of the green. It rolled off the green, but I chipped it up to 8 feet and drained the putt.

Overall, it was a good day.

First fairway jitters

Hi,

This year I got a golf membership to Springbrook Golf Club in Leeds,ME.

So last year I made a new set of golf clubs because my old clubs were too small.

This year in April I went to the driving range with my Dad and he was blown away with my swing. So when we got home he went to the computer to look up the cost of a membership to golf courses nearby, and then the fun began.

My first day I played 18 holes and shot 47-45 for a 92. On the first hole I hit my drive 170 yards down the middle of the fairway then sliced my 3-wood into the rough behind the trees. Then I piched out under the trees into the fairway and chipped up and two-putted for a six. The game was on.
